Bio

Layla Booshehri is a Research Associate in the School of Public Policy at the University of Maryland, College Park. Her research focuses on patient flows and the financial performance of healthcare systems using high performance computing and data science techniques. In collaboration with Prof. Jerome Dugan, Dr. Booshehri has designed and built a development (Hadoop) cluster for large-scale processing of health related data.

Dr. Booshehri holds an M.S. and Ph.D. in Applied Physics from Rice University and a B.S. in Physics from the University of Florida. During her Ph.D., she was a research affiliate at the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (NHMFL) at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) and her doctoral research investigated infrared spectroscopy of graphene at ultrahigh magnetic fields. Dr. Booshehri was also a former National Defense Science and Engineering (NDSEG) Fellow, NSF East Asia and Pacific Summer Institutes (EAPSI) Fellow, and Japanese Society for Promotion of Science (JSPS) Research Fellow.
