PUAF 699K: Civil Conflict & Terrorism

Semester:

Spring

Offered:

2012

The course first reviews the historical and analytic literature on civil conflict documenting incomplete understanding of its fundamental causes. It then examines six recent episodes in which international intervention was undertaken for the purpose of controlling a conflict that the responsible state could not effectively manage - Bosnia, Somalia, Rwanda, Kosovo, Afghanistan, and Congo-and considers the operational lessons that have so far been drawn.
